Many carriers are healthy
You are a “carrier” if you test positive for a condition on the Pregnancy Prep Scan. Many carriers of genetic diseases are healthy — what is most important to find out is whether both you and your partner are carriers of the same disease. In such a case, you would face a 1 in 4 (or 25%) chance with every pregnancy to have a child with symptoms. Most disorders on the Pregnancy Prep Scan are inherited this way, making the results very useful in preparing for a family. You may also learn, in rare cases, that you personally have an elevated risk for symptoms of a mild disease, like
G6PD. However, in most cases, you will simply learn whether you are a healthy carrier.
